I has now been over THREE MONTHS since the Custom Rod Builders Guild Forum has had a message posted. The officers and members have given up and handed the rod building organization and event world over to Kirkman. Great going guys. Way to show some enthusiasm for your organization.

The Custom Rod Builders Guild is not out of business. Yes our message board sees little use anymore as we have transitioned over mostly to Facebook. This has caused us some loss of membership as Facebook membership is free and does not require that anyone actually join the Guild. But we want to continue to foster and uplift the rod building community and do not want to require membership to rod builders in order for them to share information between the rod building community. We do continue to publish the Rodcrafter Journal, by and for rod builders, mailing over 300 copies per quarter to our paying members.

The Guild's message board is undergoing some changes as we have changed officers and are taking a different course in some areas. We have discussed instituting a renewed Guild National Conclave but it would be done on a different level than what the ICRBE is doing. We feel that most rod builders would rather attend a small gathering and learn hands-on style rather than being overwhelmed by dozens of manufacturers and dealers of blanks and components. We believe in the KISS principle.

The Guild will never be all things to all people but we are confident that the very best rod builders are Guild rod builders. That is enough for us!

Yeah but see, the thing is, we have heard this song and dance every time a new group of officers takes over. This club or organization has been in business now for something like 18 or 19 years it reached a peak during its first two or three years and has been going downhill ever since. Nobody in the guild has ever been willing to think big!

So now we are down to only about 300 paid members. Just as you said the cost to print the journal is only a few cents more than what it cost to be a member. How are you going to sustain this thing for even another year?

One thing is for sure you cannot do any worse than the last set of clowns that posed as officers. But until you start the national conclave up again, this thing is going nowhere. Why is the guild so afraid of the k-man? You act like the guild cannot do anything until after he decides to retire or dies or something. Get out there and get our own piece of the pie.
